Wire brush chalking areas and clean with TSP (or equivalent) and water. Dull glossy surfaces with gloss remover or sandpaper. Countersink nails and apply a rust inhibitive metal primer on exposed nail heads. Bare Wood: Remove sap and clean knotty areas.
