Cheryl and Darryl faced a challenge common among New Orleanians.

Relieved that Lowe's had been able to stay open during the ordeal, with 2 weeks of vacation Darryl and his family began to tear the walls down. When asked about inspiration, Cheryl answers with a resolute "clean walls". March 2008 photos reveal the clean walls framed by burgundy curtains, with ivory accents carried through to the tapestry chairs and rug. Darryl and Darryl Jr. worked together for a year to redo the house as Cheryl concentrated on the way to make it welcoming again.

The family ate TV dinners from their freezer for six months. During this time, Cheryl thought about the home cooked meals she'd love to prepare and serve again in her own place. Finally, after a year, the biggest celebration was welcoming the family to a lovingly prepared Thanksgiving dinner. They enjoyed it around the rich sheen of the dining room table, ready to receive the family and friends and deliver well deserved rest. The curtains hung proudly and they admired the deep burgundy accents that could elegantly set off the new clean walls in the next chapter of the Cheryl's family's home.
