HOW TO USE
-
UsageFor use on properly prepared, sloped, exterior-metal roofs and vertical-metal siding including steel and galvanized raised ridge. Suitable for wood siding too. Not intended to fix leaking roofs; not for use on flat roofs or nonmetallic roofing materials. Ideal for metal barns, sheds, exterior walls, trim and doors, aluminum siding and mobile homes.
-
PrepGeneral: Paint must be applied to clean, sound surfaces. Inspect roof and siding seams for leaks and make repairs with appropriate paintable patching material. Clean the surface thoroughly, removing all dirt, dust, chalk, rust, grease, wax and mildew and allow to dry. For large areas, cleaning is most effective with a power washer. Brush off loose rust and spot prime with Valspar Rusty Metal Primer. Prime bare wood surfaces with a high quality oil or latex exterior primer. Previously Painted Surfaces: Scrape off loose and peeling paint, sand, then spot prime. Thoroughly remove all chalk by vigorous washing with a non-residue (TSP) cleaner, then rinse surface well. Surfaces with many layers of old, brittle paint may require a complete removal of all the previous coats prior to repainting. This is best done with a power washer.
-
ApplicationPaint only when surface and air temperatures are 50–90 °F (10–32 °C). Make sure surface is clean, dry and sound. Prepare surface according to “Surface Preparation” instructions. Use a paint paddle to stir paint up from the bottom of the can. To ensure uniform color, intermix all containers of the same color. Do not apply to wet surfaces or in direct, hot sun, when rain is imminent or late in the day when dew may affect the paint cure. Apply paint with an airless sprayer. Work quickly as paint dries fast on roofing surfaces. Premium quality polyester brushes and rollers may be used for small or difficult to spray areas. Apply two coats to all surfaces, allowing to dry overnight between coats. When applying to raised ridge or other directional surfaces, spray the second coat from the opposite side of the first to ensure complete coverage. Thin only for spray application with up to 8 oz. water per gallon of paint.
