STEPS
To prep the walls for paint, I use a pole sander to lightly sand each wall and then use a damp cloth to remove any dust.
Since I’m color capping (a paint trend where you put a shade within the same color family on the ceiling for a gradual tonal shift) this room, I painted the ceiling first using Valspar Ultra Interior Paint + Primer in Lemon Cream 3006-4C. I cut in around the light fixtures, applied one coat and after 4 hours applied a second coat.
I decided to use Perennial 8001-25G in Valspar Ultra Interior Paint + Primer on the walls. I began by cutting in around the room and then applying two coats of paint. I allowed the paint to dry for 4 hours in between coats. While the walls dried, I did two coats of paint using a brush and a mini roller on all the trim around the room.
To add a little bit more personality to the ceiling, I painted the ceiling medallion for the entryway pendant in Cosmic Pink 1001-1A. I used Valspar Cabinet and Furniture Oil-Enriched Enamel because I wanted a formula that wouldn’t show any brush strokes in the very detailed piece and it worked!
Once the paint was dry, I moved all the furniture, custom artwork, and personal items back into the space. The room was adorned with bold wallpaper, a mustard yellow rug and vintage 1960’s Danish credenza for storage. The space is completely transformed, and my client loves her new living room.
